Job Description – Safety Officer (Mines/Steel Industry)
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Safety Officer to oversee and implement comprehensive safety programs within our mining and steel plant operations. The role requires ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, minimizing risks, and promoting a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies in line with mines safety regulations and other statutory requirements.
Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Lead and document incident/accident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
Deliver safety training and education programs for employees, including induction for new hires and ongoing safety awareness sessions.
Collaborate with plant management to design and implement emergency response plans; conduct mock drills and evaluate preparedness.
Monitor, analyze, and report safety performance data and key metrics to management for continual improvement.
Ensure the availability, maintenance, and proper use of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Stay abreast of evolving local, state, and federal safety regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to the steel and mining industry.
Foster a culture of proactive safety awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Assist in the preparation and management of the annual safety budget.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related field.
Certification in Industrial/Mines Safety (as per DGMS or equivalent regulatory body) is preferred.
5+ years of relevant experience in safety management within steel, mining, or heavy manufacturing industries.
Strong knowledge of safety regulations (Factory Act, Mines Act, OSHA/ISO standards, etc.).
Excellent skills in safety auditing, incident investigation, and risk management.
Strong communication, leadership, and training abilities.
Proficiency in MS Office and safety management systems/software.
