Job Description – Procurement Manager (Transportation Category) Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Procurement Manager – Transportation to join our Procurement function. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and optimizing transportation-related costs and services. You will play a key role in driving cost efficiency, ensuring service reliability, and enhancing overall supply chain performance. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in transportation procurement, proven negotiation skills, and extensive market knowledge, with the ability to lead complex procurement projects in a dynamic, global environment. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement sourcing strategies for transportation services across multiple modes (road, air, ocean, rail). Manage relationships with transportation service providers, carriers, and 3PL partners to ensure service quality and cost efficiency. Lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms, service levels, and cost savings. Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and compliance requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, and Finance to align procurement strategies with business objectives. Optimize transportation spend through market analysis, benchmarking, and data-driven insights. Oversee compliance with customs regulations, freight forwarding processes, and legal requirements. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in transportation procurement to support sustainability, efficiency, and innovation. Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS), freight payment platforms, and analytics tools to track performance and identify opportunities. Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering collaboration and capability building. Qualifications & Skills Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications such as CSCP, CPSM are a plus. Experience: Proven experience in procurement, sourcing, and supplier management within the transportation category (preferably in a complex, global environment). Strong knowledge of transportation logistics including road, air, ocean, and rail transport. Familiarity with customs regulations, international trade, and freight forwarding. Expertise in negotiation with a demonstrated track record of achieving cost savings and favorable contract outcomes. Experience with TMS, freight payment systems, and other procurement technologies. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal abilities. Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive results across teams and geographies.
