Job Description – Manager / Head (Safety, Health, Environment & Operations)
Experience: 12+ years (with strong exposure in Safety, Environment, Health & Operations in heavy engineering / steel / manufacturing industry)
Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Metallurgy/Electrical/Chemical Engineering with Diploma/Certification in Safety Management (ADIS/NEBOSH preferred).
Industry Preference: Steel, Metal, Power, Heavy Manufacturing, or related industries.
Salary: Open / Negotiable
Role Summary We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Manager/Head – SHE & Operations to drive Safety, Environment, Health, Operations, Administration, and Project Management functions. The role requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and expertise in compliance, risk management, audits, training, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in implementing HSE systems, managing shutdowns, driving continuous improvement, leading large teams, and engaging stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities1. Safety Develop and implement HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, and Training documents.
Drive SOPs / Task lists for safe operations and maintenance.
Implement safety initiatives: Near-miss reporting, Unsafe Act/Condition tracking, Toolbox talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, 5S, etc.
Conduct Safety training & refresher programs (BBS, mass awareness sessions, etc.).
Manage internal/external audits & legal compliance.
Lead incident analysis and corrective action planning.
Organize Safety Week/Month celebrations, competitions, and awareness campaigns.
Introduce innovative safety initiatives (Cross audits, One Day Safety Officer, HSE Index, Rewards & Recognition).
Implement engineering controls and system upgradation for safety.
Review and present safety performance dashboards.
Monitor and control safety-related costs.
2. Environment Implement engineering modifications/upgradations for environmental compliance.
Monitor and control environmental performance parameters within norms.
Ensure maintenance of environmental equipment & systems.
Conduct environmental awareness sessions and training.
Ensure legal and statutory compliance.
3. Health Conduct regular health monitoring for engineers, associates, and workforce.
4. Operations Lead shutdown planning and execution.
5. Administration Manage documentation, MIS, logbooks, safety/environment/health/training records, and material management.
Build a talent pool through technical training (3-day/8-day/30-day modules).
Drive refresher and multi-skilling programs.
Lead business excellence initiatives (Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, QC projects).
Manage analysis, planning, and troubleshooting activities.
Drive team building, coaching, mentoring, and leadership development.
Organize employee engagement events (festivals, safety week, sports).
Ensure performance evaluation, feedback, and succession planning.
Leverage SAP PM Module and digital tools (MS Project, Cloud, etc.).
Manage materials, contracts, and cost control.
Lead ISO, Safety, Quality, and Customer audits.
Strengthen organization branding, policies, values, and ethics.
6. Project Management Prepare visionary project list and prioritization matrix.
Manage internal project execution (PRs, SPRs, TRs, ordering, fabrication, erection, trials, and handover).
Coordinate with project teams for external execution and monitor deliverables.
7. Coordination Collaborate with DCM, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contract, Stores, Internal suppliers/customers, and auditors.
Ensure smooth cross-functional coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Manage business excellence, ISO audits, costing, and finance alignment.
Key Skills & Competencies Strong expertise in Safety, Environment, and Health compliance (NEBOSH/ADIS preferred).
Proven track record in operations, shutdowns, and project management.
Knowledge of ISO, Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, and Business Excellence practices.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in SAP, MS Office, MS Project, and digital systems.
Ability to drive team engagement, learning culture, and organizational branding.
