Role: Deputy General Manager / Plant Operations Head
Department: Operations – Service Centers
Reporting To: Chief Operations – Service Centers
1. Job Purpose Design and implement strategies to achieve operational excellence and enhance capacity utilization by analyzing equipment availability, performance, and adherence to operating norms (cycle time, power consumption, etc.) to meet Annual Business Plan (ABP) targets.
Ensure a proactive approach towards safety, statutory compliance, and cost optimization while managing plant operations.
2. Organization Chart Reports to: Chief Operations – Service Centers
Direct Reports: Operations, Maintenance, Quality, HSE & Support Teams (as applicable)
3. Accountabilities & Responsibilities Accountability
1: Customer Order Compliance Activities:
Analyze stock positions against monthly customer orders.
Finalize order booking plan with the Mill.
Analyze line-wise loading, identify gaps, and finalize loading plans.
Monitor weekly schedule compliance (customer-wise).
Take corrective actions to ensure customer order commitments are met.
Accountability 2: Cost-Effective Operations Activities:
Prepare cost budgets at the beginning of the financial year.
Conduct monthly variance analysis (target vs. actual).
Identify improvement projects for cost reduction opportunities.
Drive implementation and monitor benefits realization.
Accountability 3: Drive Operational Excellence Activities:
Identify, benchmark, and implement best practices in operational excellence.
Build and nurture the team on OpEx elements (Lean, Kaizen, TPM, etc.).
Implement continuous improvement projects across processes.
Drive effective implementation of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
Accountability 4: Achieve Safe Work Culture Activities:
Review and approve SOPs for health & safety.
Monitor safety indices: First Aid Cases, LTIs, Near Miss cases.
Ensure availability, training, and adherence to PPE and safety standards.
Build a strong safety-first culture across all functions.
4. Key Decisions Manage and align multiple stakeholders including Plant teams, Sales Channels, OEMs/HM, and external customers.
Take operational decisions related to order compliance, cost management, capacity utilization, and safety priorities.

6. Skills & Competencies Required Technical / Functional Strong knowledge of plant operations, production planning, and capacity utilization.
Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and OpEx frameworks.
Budgeting, cost management, and variance analysis.
Safety and statutory compliance management.
Knowledge of QMS, ISO standards, and audit processes.
Leadership / Behavioral Strategic thinking with execution focus.
Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration.
Ability to lead large teams and drive cultural transformation.
Decision-making under pressure with a problem-solving mindset.
High level of safety and quality consciousness.
7. Education & Experience:-B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Production Engineering (mandatory).
MBA / PGDM preferred.
12–18 years of experience in plant operations, production, or service center management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
