Job Description – Head / Senior Manager – Safety, Health, Environment & Operations Experience: 15+ years in Steel / Power / Metals / Heavy Manufacturing Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Metallurgy / Chemical with ADIS / NEBOSH / Equivalent Safety Certifications Role OverviewThe incumbent will lead Safety, Environment, Health, Operations, Administration, Project Management, and Coordination functions of the plant, ensuring legal compliance, operational excellence, risk mitigation, and employee engagement. The role demands strong leadership, analytical ability, and expertise in handling cross-functional stakeholders. Key Responsibilities1. SafetyDevelop & implement HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, SOPs & Training Modules. Drive safety programs: Near Miss Reporting, Unsafe Act/Condition Identification, Toolbox Talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, Tabletop Exercises, Safety Themes & 5S initiatives. Conduct basic & refresher safety training, BBS programs, and mass awareness campaigns. Lead internal/external safety audits ensuring legal & statutory compliance. Manage incident analysis, RCA, action plans, and regulatory reporting. Build a safety culture through events (Safety Week, competitions, safety officer of the month, etc.). Implement engineering modifications & poka-yoke systems for enhanced safety. Review safety performance metrics with stakeholders and monitor safety budgets. 2. EnvironmentDrive engineering controls & system upgradation for environmental compliance. Monitor environmental KPIs ensuring parameters remain within norms. Oversee maintenance, inspection & housekeeping of environmental systems. Conduct environmental training & awareness sessions for employees. Ensure 100% legal compliance with environmental laws & regulations. 3. HealthImplement regular health monitoring programs for engineers & associates. 4. OperationsPlan and execute shutdown activities ensuring safety, efficiency & minimal downtime. 5. AdministrationManage documentation & reporting: MIS, audits, logbooks, training records, material management, and business excellence documents. Build talent pool through structured training programs (3-day, 8-day, 30-day, refresher, multi-skilling modules). Lead business excellence projects (Six Sigma, QC, FMEA, Lean CTR, 5S). Provide planning, analysis & troubleshooting support. Foster team building, coaching, mentoring & leadership development. Organize employee engagement activities (festivals, sports, safety events). Manage performance evaluation, communication, presentation & reporting. Ensure effective use of SAP PM, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital tools. Monitor materials & contracts, cost adherence, and compliance to company policies. Handle audits (ISO, TS, Customer, Safety, Quality) & strengthen organizational branding. 6. Project ManagementPrepare visionary project lists and identify priority projects. Execute internal projects end-to-end (PRs, design, engineering, fabrication, erection, trials, commissioning). Coordinate with project teams for external execution & monitoring. 7. CoordinationCollaborate with cross-functional teams: DCM, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contracts, Stores, Central Services, and Auditors. Manage alignment with internal suppliers, internal customers, HODs, and business excellence teams. Ensure effective coordination with parent company, auditors, taxation & finance teams. Support cost management, ISO audits, and business excellence reviews. Key Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of HSE systems, audits & legal frameworks. Proven expertise in shutdowns, projects, and cross-functional operations. Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, Business Excellence, ISO systems. Leadership in team building, coaching, mentoring & succession planning. Proficiency in SAP, MS Project, and digital plant tools. Excellent analytical, communication & stakeholder management skills.
