Job Description – Head of Projects & Maintenance (Steel Industry) Job Title: Head – Projects & Maintenance Reports To: Director – Operations / Plant Head Industry: Steel / Heavy Manufacturing Role Purpose:-The role involves leading and managing projects and maintenance functions within a steel manufacturing environment, ensuring optimal equipment performance, compliance with safety and legal requirements, and continuous improvement in plant operations. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to implement long-term strategies for reliability and efficiency. Key Responsibilities:- Lead project execution and maintenance operations across the steel plant, ensuring minimum downtime and high productivity. Drive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to enhance equipment life cycle and efficiency. Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and environmental regulations within all maintenance and project activities. Develop and manage capital and operational budgets for projects and maintenance functions. Coordinate with cross-functional teams for new projects, technology upgrades, and process improvements. Guide, mentor, and develop the maintenance & project teams to build technical and leadership capability. Ensure effective vendor and contractor management to deliver projects within scope, cost, and time. Implement best practices, digital tools, and modern maintenance systems (CMMS, TPM, RCM). Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot critical breakdowns and lead root cause analysis (RCA). Prepare and present reports to senior management on project progress, maintenance KPIs, and cost efficiencies. Skills & Knowledge Educational Qualifications & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a technology-related discipline (Mechanical / Electrical / Metallurgy / Industrial Engineering). Relevant certifications in Project Management / Maintenance Management preferred. Experience: 20–25 years of overall industry experience. Minimum 7 years of practical leadership experience in the Projects and Maintenance Department in the steel industry. Functional Skills: Strong knowledge of steel plant processes, systems, and equipment. Proven ability to perform all technical and managerial tasks related to project execution, maintenance planning, and asset management. Budgeting, cost optimization, and project management expertise. Behavioral Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure. Strong legal compliance mindset to ensure safety and statutory adherence. Self-motivated leader with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
