Job Description

Classical Chemical Analysis (Wet Chemistry): o Perform wet chemical analysis to determine the chemical composition of metal samples. This involves manual titrations, gravimetric analysis, and colorimetric methods to identify and quantify elements. o Utilize acid-base titration to measure the concentration of specific elements, such as determining the amount of carbon in steel by measuring the carbon dioxide released when the sample is treated with acid. o Use precipitation reactions to separate and quantify different metals in a sample by forming insoluble compounds that can be weighed. 2. Sample Preparation: o Prepare metal samples by cutting, grinding, and polishing to obtain a representative sample for analysis. o Perform acid digestion of metal samples to dissolve the metal into a solution for further chemical analysis. o Handle and measure chemicals accurately, ensuring that samples are prepared consistently for reliable results. 3. Qualitative Analysis: o Conduct qualitative tests, such as flame tests or spot tests, to identify the presence of specific elements based on their characteristic reactions or colors. o Utilize manual separation techniques, such as filtration, distillation, or extraction, to isolate specific components of the metal sample for further analysis. 4. Quantitative Analysis: o Perform volumetric analysis (titrations) to determine the exact concentration of elements such as iron, copper, or zinc in metal samples. o Use gravimetric methods to measure the mass of an element or compound after precipitation, drying, and weighing, which allows for the precise determination of its quantity in the sample. 5. Documentation & Reporting: o Accurately record all procedures, measurements, and results manually in laboratory notebooks. o Prepare detailed reports on the chemical composition of analysed metal samples, including calculations and interpretations of the results. 6. Quality Control: o Regularly check the composition of metals during different stages of production to ensure they meet required specifications. o Verify the purity of raw materials before they are used in the foundry process. 7. Safety & Compliance: o Handle chemicals and reagents safely, following proper protocols to prevent accidents, contamination, or chemical spills. o Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and proper disposal of chemical waste. 8. Collaboration: o Work closely with metallurgists and production teams to provide insights based on the chemical analysis. o Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving if the chemical composition of metals does not meet required specifications. 9. Training & Development: o Stay updated on the latest developments in chemical analysis techniques and metallurgical processes.
